What Size Home Sauna Do You Need?

Interior benches of an infrared sauna

Sauna size is the interior you can sit in, plus the space the cabin needs to reach that room. A “two-person” label does not guarantee two adults will be comfortable. Bench depth, shoulder width, and ceiling height do.

A simple way to choose

  • One regular user. A personal infrared cabin such as the Solara keeps the footprint small and the warm-up short.
  • A couple, or one person who wants to stretch. Step up to the Eclipse. Read the two-person infrared guide before you rely on the seat count.
  • Guests and a hotter ritual. A traditional cabin such as the Horizon or Alpine is sized around benches and a heater, not around a quick weekday session.
  • An awkward plan. If the room is not a clean rectangle, a pre-built cabin will advertise the compromise. A bespoke Atelier layout is drawn to the architecture.

Three measurements to take

Write down the clear floor, including door swing. Write down the ceiling height. Then walk the route from the unloading point with a tape: gates, lifts, and the tightest corner. A cabin that fits the room and not the corridor is a site problem, not a showroom problem. Outdoor barrels such as the Boreal avoid the corridor, and instead need a level garden base. That trade-off is covered in the outdoor sauna guide.

If a cold plunge will share the room, size both footprints together. The plunge is not a side table. Leave a service gap around the chiller.

Send the measurements with your consultation. Starting prices on each product page assume the standard cabin, not a cabin cut down to suit a doorway.

Is a bigger sauna always better?

No. An oversized cabin in a small household takes longer to heat and steals floor from the rest of the room. Match it to the number of people who will use it in the same week.

How much ceiling height is enough?

You should be able to sit upright on the upper bench without hunching into the ceiling. Tell the studio your ceiling height before a traditional cabin is specified, because the heater also needs clearance.

Can two cabins be better than one large one?

Sometimes. A personal infrared cabin plus a separate plunge is a better daily tool than one huge sauna nobody uses. The studio can sketch both.
